(A debtor may also repay all of their debts under revised repayment terms as well.) There are two main types of bankruptcy - re-organization and liquidation. Chapter 7, which is a liquidation bankruptcy, is the most common bankruptcy and is filed by consumers. Chapter 13, which is a re-organization bankruptcy, is gaining in popularity since congress passed an act in 2005 preventing abuse of chapter 7 bankruptcy filing (filing chapter 7 when the debtor was able to pay off their debts) A chapter 7 bankruptcy is known as a liquidation bankruptcy because when you file under chapter 7, your bankruptcy trustee will take any of your non-exempt property and sell (liquidate) it to repay your creditors (ie, the people you owe money to.) Asbestos claims still rising - but funds are falling short

Asbestos claims still rising - but funds are falling short

It is for this reason that the funds available to compensate these victims are diminishing at an alarming rate. Asbestos and mesothelioma in Australia Many experts believe that Australia's shockingly high incidence of mesothelioma (second only to the UK) is directly related to the extensive use and mining of asbestos during the 1950’s through to the 1970’s. My friends at Thompsons have been helping people who have asbestos related diseases for many years.  Many people think that asbestos exposure is an old problem as there are many rules and regulations in place to ensure that workers and members of the public are not exposed to such dangerous substances.   Unfortunately that is not the case and I was shocked to see that a tradesman and a 17 year –old trainee employed by outside contractors were installing CCTV cameras at the Recreation Centre at Aston University last July when they drilled into material containing asbestos. At a court hearing, it was discovered that the university failed to follow its own procedures on managing, planning and preparing for the installation of the CCTV.  The university admitted to 2 charges of breaching health and safety regulations and was fined £4,000. The CCTV contractor also admitted an offence under the control of...
